Take a look in the mirror. Isn’t all that you see extraordinary, gorgeous, and breathtaking? That beautiful smile, and perfectly pigmented skin. Doesn’t the image you see remind you of your sisters, cousins, and parents? Or the girl or guy whose self-esteem you ruin every day? You know the human body is really crazy when you think about it. I mean the human body does so many extraordinary things. The human body digests food, produces energy, creates cells, fights diseases, regrows organs, heals, produces thoughts, feels sensations, tastes flavors, senses danger, and so much more. Our bodies are what keep us alive, what keeps the blood pumping through our veins and oxygen flowing in our lungs. It drives us to work hard and to rest. Our bodies give us life. Pure, amazing, beautiful life. Every person who has come before us is a part of who we are molecularly. We are our parents, and our grandparents, and our grandparents’ parents.
Our bodies are the reason we’re alive and yet we don’t value them. We don’t love them, we don’t thank them, we don’t celebrate them. Instead, we critique them and judge how they appear. We put ourselves down for not having clear skin, long hair, defined jawlines, small noses, tiny feet, long legs, light-colored eyes, and perfectly tamed eyebrows. We say that not having these things makes us less beautiful. That without these traits we are somehow inferior to others. Completely overlooking all that our bodies do for us and focusing on how it benefits other people. It’s time to value our bodies and truly be amazed at all that they do for us because all those miraculous things they create and produce are beautiful. Therefore I’m beautiful, you’re beautiful, and so is everyone else inside and out. We are all beautiful, breathtaking beings and we so desperately need to cherish our bodies because we only get one whether it looks perfect or not. So you owe it to yourself to look within and find beauty and confidence in your imperfections.
