“Looking Glass Self,” Maleko Myers, ’24

Sidney Bester, '23

When they see me, they see a distant sky.

To them, my aura manifests itself as a crisp baby blue;

It reflects just how cool I am.

And by cool, I mean cool, calm, and collected.

Could have a triangle for a nose

To show that maintaining balance is my forte.

I may seem a little reserved at times,

But after they catch a glimpse of this smile,

They are quick to call me an angel.

They are even quicker to say I´m just a proud bird.

That every time I fly high into the air

To pluck fruits of knowledge from the clouds,

I´m just trying to flex my wings.

When they see me, they see a distant sky.

When I see myself, I see a sentient machine.

To me, my aura manifests itself as a pale rose pink;

It reflects just how delicate I am.

And by delicate, I mean this machine can stall, malfunction, and break.

Could have cracks running along my face

To show that handling pressure is my speciality.

I may seem a little distracted at times,

But whenever I zip my lips and smile,

I am quick to call it me giving you my full attention.

I am even quicker to call myself an aspiring mechanic.

Whenever I reach into the tool bag of the world to procure intelligence,

I’m just trying to learn how I can be of service.

When I see myself, I see a sentient machine.
